Our Tax Clinic at the South Asian Women’s Centre (SAWC) offers essential services to assist new immigrants in managing their taxes efficiently. Our goal is to help individuals understand and fulfill their tax obligations with ease and confidence.
Our Tax Clinic services include:
Annual tax filing
Free tax preparation
Expert assistance in preparing and filing taxes, ensuring compliance with Canadian tax laws.
Taxation rules education: Workshops and one-on-one sessions to educate newcomers on the basics of the Canadian tax system
You are eligible for this service if you are:
65 and over
Modest Income individuals
1 person $ 35,000
2 people $ 45,000
3 people $ 47,000
4 people $ 50,000
5 people $ 52,000
More than 5 people $52,500, plus $ 2,500 for each additional person.
Person with disabilities
We don’t assist with filling tax returns for self-employed individuals or small businesses.

You will need the following documentation:
SIN
T4 and T4A (if any) or any other T4 you might have
Rent receipts
Two pieces of the government issued ID at least one photo ID
All other receipts for expenses that could be tax deductible

Yes, any income received on the regular basis such as rents, pensions need to be declared.

It is your choice if you file joint returns with your spouse. There are advantages to do either way.
