Legal Aid

Comprehensive support for new immigrants

Legal aid services provide free or low-cost legal assistance to individuals who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. These services ensure everyone has access to justice, regardless of their financial situation. Legal aid typically covers a variety of legal issues, including:

  1. Family Law: Assistance with divorce, custody disputes, child support, and domestic violence cases.

  2. Public Benefits: Guidance on accessing government benefits like Social Security, unemployment, and food assistance.

  3. Criminal Defence: Some legal aid organizations represent individuals accused of crimes who cannot afford an attorney.

  4. Immigration: Support with immigration status, asylum applications, and deportation proceedings.

Clients must meet specific income and eligibility criteria. Legal aid may encompass consultations, advice, courtroom representation, and legal education.

To make an appointment with our lawyer, please email Nusrat Mumtaz at nmumtaz@sawc.org or call 416-537-2276 ext 1.
